When should I start signing with my baby?
You can start at any time, some parents start from birth other wait until the baby is older. I started to sign with my first baby at 4 months and he started to sign back at around 6 months old. Parents who start earlier do so, so that they get time to practice the signs themselves. Babies have the motor skills to be able to produce signs from about 6 months old, but a baby’s memory will not develop enough to store and use the signs regularly until around 7 months old.
Will baby sign delay my baby’s speech?
Absolutely not! When you teach your baby to sign you will be saying the words along with the actions. Research has shown that signing babies are more likely to speak earlier and have a larger vocabulary than non-signing babies.
